Hi All,

I havent been on this site for a while because i've been fit and well for about 2 years now.The last time i saw my uroligist he did a test and said my bladder wasn't fully emptying so i retain stale wee;he put me on long term antibiotics and i got well after 5 years of monthly infections. The problem is that the low dose antibiotics don't work any more and i am back to square one.My GP isn't very understanding and sometimes makes me feel like it's all in my head.He is going to refer me back to my uroligist but that could be months away.

As any one had the same problem with their bladder not emptying properly?I thought once i got a diagnosis(it took 5 years) i would be cured or at least controlled properly.Pain, sickness, chills and feeling really unwell isn't what i expected this christmas....but hay ho we don't all get what we want

Any advise would be a great help

Thanx

Jacky

Would it be possible for you to be trained by a nurse to self-catheterise in order to empty your bladder completely?

Thanx Eccles and Beccie for your advise.

I have never had a name for what is up with me!My uroligist just said i wasn't fully emptying and because the low dose antibiotics were working it was best left alone;which 2 years ago felt like a break through and i was relieved to think i didn't have to have any more procedures done.

Self catherterisation seems very daunting and i have never heard of it.When i go to the loo i do wee ok and feel like i have finished, but tests showed not.

Beccie how did your problems start? Was it a graduale thing?I never had a water problem until i got pelvic disease (then it wasn't a perminant thing) I had a hysterectomy at 29 and since then have suffered with chronic uti's.

I will have to do some more research ! I don't know anyone locally with a problem like mine....it makes me feel a little better when i come on this site because people here understand!

Once again thanx and Merry Christmas to you all

Hi Jacky,

I used to retain urine for years.  The Uro doesnt know why but I do have a small bladder.  I did try Intermittent self catheterisation (ISC) for 6mths to empty my bladder after normal urination. This did not seem to make any difference to the infections, but I know it does help some.

I have tried several low dosage antibiotics which did seem to help while they worked ! If your current low dose antibiotic has stopped working has your GP suggested alternatives to try whilst waiting for your Uro referral?

After many years of low dosage antibiotics I had a helmstein (prolonged bladder stretch for 2 +hrs) this actually worked and for the first time I was able to empty completely.... I do retain occasionally but with patience can now empty much better . I can suffer from a few infections a year but it is much better than it used to be.

best wishes

Dawn
