Hi, every so often I get a pain in what I think is my left ovary - like as though it is being pulled apart - I had a scan a couple of years ago + I had to have a full bladder - the radiographer told me my bladder wasn't full enough (even though I couldn't walk I was that desperate) + said the scan showed nothing because of it.  I have had the pains again recently + have a docs appt tomorrow.  Just wondering if there is any other way than a scan to find out the problem?  Has anyone else had this?  I can't pinpoint it to any particular time ie time of the month so really don't know what it is?  Any ideas? xxxx

Just after the previous post I went to the toilet + there was lots of blood like I had started a period - I am on the pill + am like clockwork + not due on at all.  Bit worried now but going to docs in the morning.  Any ideas of what this might be would be welcome,
Thanksxxxx

You can have an internal scan- I have had them- where they use an ultrasound probe vaginally-and you don't need a full bladder.

It sounds as if you might have had an ovarian cyst that has burst- although if you have been on the Pill for a while then you shouldn't be producing eggs, which is how cysts originate.

If you are referred to a gynae, then maybe ask them for that?

Thanks Gig - I was referred for an ultrasound yesterday so I will request the internal scan.  The doc also said that if nothing was found I could go for a laparoscopy.  The pain comes + goes but I've had a dull ache the past couple of days.  When the pain does come though it's horrific + I can't stand up.  Will let you know how I get on xxxx  Hope you are having a well behaved bladder day!!! xxxx

Hope you get on okay.

If you do have an internal scan, I would recommend taking the usual post-sex (!) measures- wee afterwards and wash if you can- just pour cool water from a bottle over yourself in the loo.

Also, explain you have a bladder problem and ask them to be gentle.
