Hello everybody. I do hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather, I know the heat does not agree with everyone especially when feeling poorly. I thought I would give you the benefit of my latest experience in case it helps others. I was taken off Vesicare the first time I tried it because I had terrible side effects. As I was on steroids at the time, I was never able to find out what exactly caused the side effects so was left without answers as we are so often are. Anyway, I was put back on to Detrusitol and I developed the most horrendous bladder pain on this and consultant took me off it. Pain did not improve however and GP suggested now I am not on steroids, to try Vesicare again. After a month I saw a bit of improvement but one day I needed to go the loo about 50 times and thought this not right. Anyway, I persevered and I have now been on it for 3 months and just this week I have had 3 pain free days,. I am writing this to let people know that sometimes it can take ages to get a result so it is worth persevering.

Hi there Jeanne and thanks for the post. I too take Vesicare and although the progress was slow I have also had a slight inprovement in both my frequency and urgency. I would suggest that people of course speak to their own Consultants and GP's about this and carry out their own research but it is always lovely to hear a success story. Kindest regards, Emma

Yes it is interesting about the consequences of upping the dosage. When I first had it I was on 10mg and had a bad experience but came off it for a few days then went back on 5 mg and it was better. It looks like it has to be a 'trial and error' for each person. Good luck anyway.

I was taking 5mg at night before I had the botox treatment blooming botox worked too well and can't go at all now without catheter but you have to stick with the vesicare for a while before it works and I would consider going back on it when the botox wears off. I still had urgency when I was on vesicare it just helped me stay a sleep a bit longer, I did find getting to sleep hard though because of the urgency.

Hello everybody! I am new on this site, but I am glad I’ve found it, as i am experiencing the same symptoms as so many people here... I was diagnosed with OAB about 3 years ago, and at that time, I was on vesicare for 3 months and it worked for about 2 years. I started having the OAB symptoms again last year, and now I'm taking again Vesicare, for 4 days now, but it makes my symptoms even worse. I woke up at least 10 times during last night and this is something I don’t want to ever experience in my life. Does anybody here have the same situation? When the symptoms get worse after several days of treatment? I am kind of desperate, because I can sleep well and I can concentrate on my work and it’s driving me crazy. I can’t wait for a week to pass to see if the symptoms get better. Thank you in advance,

Hi Jules,
Did you go back and see the doctor before taking vesicare again ? Just checking that you made sure you had your ureine checked for an infection.
It is unusual for Vesicare to give you frequency here is further info
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/seniors-health/medicines/vesicare.html
If you are having trouble sleeping you may find it helpful to discussing wiht your GP if an antihistamine ie Atrax might help . It is used in IC patients also.
from COB wesbite
Antihistamines Hydroxine Atarax® is an antihistamine that is used for treating allergies. It is used in the treatment of interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome as it prevents the release of histamines that can cause inflammation. In the immediate term, it can improve nocturia (the need to pass urine at night). Sufferers of IC/PBS should normally see an improvement within a short space of time.
I would urge you to join COB Foundation and receive further information about bladder conditions and tips that will help you deal with your symptoms.

Hi All,
I am new to this site.
I have been on Vesicare for approx 10 days now. I thought it had started to work 2 days ago but then today it seems to have gone backwards.
I have a constant busting feeling and my bladder does not completely empty when I go. I have also been trying the other techniques my Doc advised me of.
How long should Vesicare take to work? I really want to get rid of this busting feeling as it is making it hard to sleep, socialise, work and general day to day living.

Hi SW22 I took it for quite a long time and it did take quite a few weeks for it to get into my system properly. You can send for an in mformation pack from vesicare and they also have nurses you can contact for information I think they had a contact website addy in the packet.
