Hello,

I've just recently registered here, and would like to pose a question to you all.

I have suffered with recurrent bacterial cystitis for almost 10 years and have tried all the usual prevention techniques to no avail.  I am now permanently on preventative anti-biotics after s*x.

During my various research, some time ago I came across a lot of articles on Colloidal Silver as an natural alternative to anti-biotics and recommended for chronic cystitis problems.  For a long while I forgot about it as I could only obtain it from America at the time.  However, Holland and Barrett in the UK have started to sell it, and I am starting to wonder if it would be useful to try.

Has anyone here ever tried Colloidal Silver with any success?

I apologise if this topic has been mentioned before - I have read through a lot of the threads but could not find one that related to this subject.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

M

HIya,

I have not heard of this in supplement form but there are some homeopathic versions of silver of which the main one is Argentum Nitricum ( Silver nitrate) it is indicated for urethra that is inflamed with pain burning and itching, divided stream, and other cystitis type symptoms.

I would use anything coming from silver with caution particulalry if it hasn't been potentised ( ie diluted) but that's just my opinion.

Good luck and take care,

Olga

Hello,

From what I've read, Colloidal Silver basically consists of silver suspended in distilled water.  The dilution ratio on the Colloidal Silver I have seen available at Holland & Barrett is 3ppm, and from some internet investigating I found out that E-Coli is destroyed at 2.5ppm.

I've also read that bacteria do not become resistant to Colloidal Silver, although I do not know how true this is.

Any more comments or opinions would be most welcome.

Thanks,

M

HIya Maisy,

Sorry to be ignorant- what does PPM stand for - is it parts per ML?

It sounds interesting- do you have some weblinks about the link to e-coli?

Take care,

Olga

Hello,

ppm means parts per million (as far as I'm aware).

Just type "Colloidal Silver" into a search engine (I use Yahoo normally), and you will find loads of stuff.  I haven't any favourite website detailing the uses of Colloidal Silver as there are so many, and they pretty much all say the same thing.

Take a look - I'd like to hear someone else's opinion on the matter, and what they think of the information available on the web (i.e. how realistic does it sound).  I guess at the end of the day it is worth trying just to see what happens.

Thanks!

M

I own a pet shop and I sell  two types of  Colloidal Silver for pets...but I also take it myself. I had an attack of cystitis recently (my first for about 7 years) and I found relief from the Silver with 3-5ppm but not the one with 10ppm. This is odd and I dont know why. I would be a bit wary of the one sold at Holland & Barrett ...3ppm and contains 'dairy' (definately a bit iffy lol) and over priced in my opinion at 12.99 for 120ml!!

In my desperate search to find alternatives I looked this up as well.

If I was you I wouldn't touch the stuff!  I've posted a link below; it can turn your skin silver and this is genuinely what can happen.  There was also a man known as 'Papa Smurf' due to his colour who this happened to due to taking colloidal silver.

We are ready to take anything just to cure ourselves of this terrible illness. I also researched this subject some time ago but a few people warned me against silver, we can only use it on top of our skin but I would not touch it either to drink it and thus put it inside my body. It can be very harmful.

I think we should check twice each single medicine which is advertised on the internet and as somebody has already said it here what is good for one person can be harmful  for another.

Hi

I tried this years ago.  It didn't do a thing, but I now know that I didn't take anywhere near the quantities needed to make any difference as was put off by some scary stories about skin turning permanently blue. I've now heard from several ladies on another forum that high doses to combat infection are safe and they are posting some good results.  A good manufacturer is colloidalsilveruk.com.   I would definitely take this again but I know it would interfere with the chinese herbal treatment I am currently on.

Thank you for your comments. to be honest I too am concerned by the worry that it could turn my skin blue or grey at high enough doses. also I cannot understand the dosage; every website says something different .

I am not on facebook so cannot join the group for Dr A patients which otherwise would give me the info.

So, I would be really interested to hear from anyone who is currently taking it, and at what dose, you could PM  me if you would rather. I have read that it can really help but understandably I am scared, also I'm on herbal medicine too (combo of eastern and western) on top of high dose a/bs and various painkilling drugs so worried about interactions in something unmonitored. I am getting to the stage where the pain is so desperately bad I am willing to try just about anything, I feel trapped between a life I don't want and the obligation to stay in it, to stay in this pain and misery, because I have little children.
so please, any experiences, swing them my way!

looking back through this thread, and others on other forums, it seems this is nothing 'new'; posts go back ten years!
