Just two days ago I had a second instillation of Cystistat and after a dreadful night last night my GP has found an infection. I also feel very bruised with swollen urethra. To add to my woe it seems I am going into retention and may need to go to A&E if I can't go soon, which is nuts because I feel like I want to go all the time.
Help please.

Hello GeorgieGirl
Am so sorry no one has felt able to offer any assistance.

Sadly, when I searched on this Forum, older posts were in unable to agree about instillations, with many experiencing retention, and having to learn self catherising. I hope your Doc has advised you, re ensuring you do empty your Bladder.Did Doc say what your infection was? and are you on AB's.
I wonder if this reply from Moderator Susan to another member may be of some help.

Please contact our BHUK adviceline , they will have much to assist you.( Remember we are only a small Charity) and the phone lines maybe busy BUT DO leave your contact Number and someone WILL return your call.

Kind regards

Hi GeorgieGirl

Infection is a potential hazzard when you have instillations because the catheter can carry bugs on it up into the bladder. When you go for the next one can your consultant prescribe a one-off antibiotic you could take before you have it - that might stop the same thing happening again.
