I was listening to a live video lecture yesterday (Sean Croxton thyroid summit which may still be available to access -  This was the discussion by Dr Tom O'Brien.

This discussion discussed the effect gluten has on the whole body as an auto-immune condition. There is also another disucssion by Nora Gedgaudas (writer) on gluten and Hashimotos thyroid disease (auto-immune).

I think there are some people on this forum who have Hashimotos. It may be of interest to them or to take up the issues of gluten sensitivity or do a very strict gluten free diet.

It is now widely recognised in the USA (but not shockingly in the UK) that Coeliac is only one small part of the gluten intolerant condition and that Non-Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is far wider and devastating in its nature as the gluten attacks all body tissues and does not have to be related only to the gut. People with NCGS can have all manner of severe symptoms where tissue is being attacked including the thyroid.

Hope this may be of help to anyone.

Here is a direct link to the webinar Icy is talking about, also includes downloadable transcript of the discussion. I don't know how long this will be available for, will update if I can find out.
