Hi this one sachet/dose is meant to be amazing. You can't buy in the UK. Anyone who gets abroad..Italy Spain Germany…can you buy it without a prescription OTC?

Wondering how to get some if needed. Presume there are no private stockists in the UK?

Cheers

Hello sharon
I have checked with COB office, which is always a good first place to go when you have any queries and need advice, and if you become a Member of COB they have a lot more information and support available to you.More than we can offer on the Forum.

"Monurol is Fosfomycin and is available in the UK. It is a very powerful antibiotic and usually used for resistant bacteria like ESBL."

Hope this is a help.
Kind regards
Kate

This is great news!  Something to hang on to when all other antibiotics have been exhausted.

Most of the time I managed to keep my cystitis under control with Waterfall D Mannose.  I take two 1g tablets twice a day as a preventive, some people can get away with taking a lower preventive dose.  Just finished a course of antibiotics and had some residual discomfort, so taking two tablets after each trip to the loo!  Seems okay so far...

Kate, is Fosfomycin now licensed in the UK?  About 3 years ago my GP had to issue me a private prescription for this and it took 3 days for the pharmacist to get hold of it at a cost of £50 per sachet. If it's now licensed here it is very good news indeed, as without this drug ESBL infections may require IV treatment.

Hi Jill
I have found one trust that was precribing in 2013, and prescription had to be obtained from hospital pharmacy.

I have ask Sussanha to advise me if she has any confirmed details and will post again, with any further relevant info.

Just a post following this thread. I was given a dose of Fosfamycin early into my treatment. Sadly it didn't work for me but it is a powerful antibiotic and is given as a one off dose. It had to be prescribed by the hospital pharmacy under the guidance of my specialist who works both privately and in the NHS.

it hnas not worked for me either, it is always best to check if bacteria are sensitive to it.

I agree Speedy. Sadly this was pre sediment culture but I know others who have had success with it.
