Hi. I have just found this site.wish I had found it years ago.
Well here goes here's my story, I know its long but if just one person can relate to it and helps then its wortband.....
I'm a 28 year old female and have had both stress and urge incontinence for as long as I can remember. I'm the 4th generation with this problem and to be honeat., up until now it has controlled every aspect of my life.
The first time I acknowledged it was a problem I was 18, I went out with friends and had to come home early coz I wet myself, then got changed and went to bed and wet myself again. I was horrified.
As the years went by it got worse and worse. I got depressed largely because of it, I didn't want to be intimate with my hubby, had to be so careful what I wore and ended up in very large pads. My weight spiraled out of control.....I was a mess. We even had to throw away our mattress due to my constant bed wetting, humiliation is an undeststment.
Anyway I had 3 beautiful children and realised enough was enough.
Finally saw a urologist who said my weight would not be helping (I was aware of this but had this problem when I was a healthy weight). Anyway I was so desperate for help I would have done anything to help. So after countless efforts to loose weight I paid privately and had a gastric band in November last year which has helped me loose 4 stone so far (3.5 to go). Well 2 weeks ago my life changed, i cannot describe how much I would recommend this op to anyone suitable. I had a tot bladder tape. Stress incontinence has completely gone and urge is quite well controlled on betmiga 40mg. I'm still so nervouse going out without a large pad but I really don't need it.
My op was done under local anesetic , its newly done this way, normal done under spinal. Minimal pain afterwards.
So there you go, thanku to anyone who persevered and read to the end. I hope it gives hope to anyone in a similar situation [smile]

Thank you for you post jesslb.  So good to hear that someone has actually has an improved life.  I have never heard of "Tot Bladder Tape" what is it please?  I have had  this condition since 2006 and apart from the continuous urge to go to the toilet, I have severe pain all the time which is controlled by pain killers.  In the last month these tablets do not seem to work and I am desperate.  I lay awake all night and in the end forget when I last took a pill.  I have already lost the intimacy  I once had with my partner because I had to get in a single bed because I am up and down every night. It is ruining what bit of life I have left.  I do wish someone would provide an answer. Glad your better though. Regards  Jean

Thanku so much. The tot is a trans obturator tape. I have it done under local anestic and I only have one insision site under your urethra. On and out of hospital in one day. Its has made my stress incontinece disapear. But medication is helping the urge problem. I hope u get your situation sorted soon. I must admit it was a very long process getting this far but worth it. X

Have you had any tests to try and find out what is causing the pain?

I had a cystoscopy several years ago and was very disappointed when they said I had a normal bladder with no signs of trouble.  I thought then I would get an answer.  I do not remember whether i had the pain then or was it just the overactiveness I was suffering from.  Anyway since then I have been put on all the medication which did decrease the pain but did not stop it altogether.  Now once again it is absolutely horrendous and it makes me feel sick and tetchy all the time.  The only time I am pain free is when I do a wee.  Ridiculous isn't it?  Now I am on so manay pain killers, they are becomming a problem too.  Had a nice GP but they don't know any answers and she gone now to have a baby so got to start again.  Its never ending.

I'm so sorry you find yourself in this situation. Has a urologist not offered you any other form of treatment. Sacral nerve or Botox may help. Have you ever had any form of urodynamics to confirm that you have overactive bladder. There are newer medications now on the market such as Betmiga.

Please do call the COB office in the morning, don't suffer this alone, I really feel you need further specialist help. Your GP may have been sympathetic but you need further professional urological help.

I know this is a long time ago. When did the Betmiga work for you. I have been on it for nearly two weeks and no results.

To Sachbash, in the last 4 weeks I have taken Betmiga also no results until the 24/25th day when I was having very strong urges to go to the loo, but finding I couldn't satisfactorily empty my bladder, despite the fact the pain was returning every 15 minutes or so. This went on for another couple of days and nights, so I took advice from my urologist who said cease taking them and I would be reviewed in a couple of months. Since stopping them which was 3 days ago, I haven't yet got back to my normal pattern of overactive bladder, but my 'normal' flow is returning. In the meantime having tried all the other medications to reduce the frequency without success I'm back to where I started which was 5 years ago.
