Disabled employees are protected by The Equality Act 2010. I am sure you are questioning what does disability means under the Equality Act?

The main definition is: A person is disabled if they have ‘a physical or mental impairment’ which has ‘a substantial and long-term adverse effect’ on their ‘ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities’.

The purpose of this thread is to provide and share information regarding employment law and rights for people who are disabled.

It also gives information regarding what is classed as discrimination within the workplace and what action p/reasonable adjustments employers must take to ensure disabled employees respected and supported and are given the same opportunities as those employees who are not disabled.

I have tried to think of questions you might have - please click on the link after the question to find out the answer.

What is the Equality Act 2010?

Am I covered under the Equality Act 2010?

What are reasonable adjustments?

How can I find out more information about my rights?

What is workplace discrimination?

Is there any financial assistance available to help with disability and work related expenses?

Who can support me if I am being treated unfairly by my employers?
