I am so relieved to find a site full of people who don't scoff when you say you have cystitis! I first started having attacks when I was only 16 after losing my virginity, back then I had no clue what it was, my innocence assuming it was a side effect of being new to sex. But since then Ive had cystitis after sex about 75% of the time. It's taken me to my 20s to begin to find some preventativ measures and a very understanding boyfriend of two years.
I'm drinking diluting juices with barley in them, during attacks I drink lots of cranberry juice, I always urinate after sex and I have a constant supply of cymalon sachets.
However when I have a really bad attack and I go to my GP he always gives me the same antibiotic course, which calm the symptoms but don't send them away. And my urine sample tests ALWAYS come back negative.

I have two questions to put to you all,
1. Is it painful to have your bladder examined internally?
2. What painkillers do you recommend? I have problems swallowing tablets so I tend to take dissolvable aspirin, but surely passing this through the infection causes more problems?

Thank you!

Hi Lauren,

Sorry for the delay in responding I have been unwell.

Some have found it helpful to use extra lubrication during intercourse and also taking the supplement D-Mannose , which can come in powder form.

The only way to examine the inside of your bladder is through a tiny camera , which is usually done under aneasethetic.

If the painkillers you are taking are not helping your doctor/chemist can prescibe stronger ones which are also dissolvable, I take co-codomal.

If you would like to receive further information on BC send your name and address to info@cobfoundation.org

You may also find it helpful t owatch the webcast at the top of this forum.

best wishes

Dawn

hi lauren,

my names lauren too, i am 23 and started getting painful infections from the age of 17 (when i lost my virginity) ive had 2 urethra stretches and am on permenant anti biotics... although these have not helped i am due to go back to the doctor as i think i have IC which lots of the ladies on here have suggested as my water always comes back clear. i dont go anywhere without sachets and water, i too have a fabulously understanding boyfriend who is incredibly supportive and patient

hopefully ill find something that helps me and i hope you do too... the stretches did give me alot of relief but sadly it was short lived. Hope your ok... its such a horrible thing to deal with and being young its confusing and makes me feel very inadequate at times. i cant drink alcohol so dont go out alot and cant be intimate with my boyfriend as much as i want. i cant eat certain foods or many other drinks besides water but i have a great boyfriend and family so i am lucky in that sense

hope you get the answers you want, this site helped me massively.
