I have been to the doctors today and after explaining my symptoms, he feels i may have a narrowing of the urethra caused by inflamation (following an ecoli infection - urine is now testing negative). He is referring me to an urologist and said that urethreal dialations can be performed to help.

I am guessing that if he is correct, this means I have what is termed 'urethritis' or 'urethreal' syndrome.

I would be grateful if anyone can offer any information or advice before I see an urologist. My symptoms are a feeling of burning and soreness, towards the base of the urethra. Is this diagnosis really a form of early IC? Has anyone had a similar experience? Are dialations very dangerous/often helpful? IS there anything else i should be thinking of, eg. instead of dialations?

Thank you.

Hi,

I have had two urethral dilation and found them to be helpful. Urethral Syndrome is not always a sign that IC will occur.

Glad your GP is referring you for further investigation of your symptoms, hope you dont have to long a wait for an appointment.

I have found the cream Betnovate to be helpful with urethral soreness. There are other creams available also.

Hopefully your symptoms will improve.

best wishes
Dawn

Hi,

I had awful frequency (needing to pee sometimes every 15 minutes) and also urethral soreness , this went on for 2 years before I had urethral dilation , I also had this done at the same time as bladder distention. This was many years ago..

Afterwards the first few urinations were painful, with every urination this eased. I found I could urinate better afterwards and the soreness eased. The first time it took me 2 wks to feel better , the 2nd time it was a week.

best wishes

Dawn

Hello - I have posted a little before on this board about my own case. I had a UTI which in the beginning responded to antibiotics and then just came back as soon as I stopped them. It was cultured as resistant to many common antibiotics so they finally gave me injections which worked for 3 days and then the symptoms came back so after 6 days I stopped them. I then used herbal medicines and my frequency and urgency is now much better. But I now have the urethral soreness like you are talking about and can't figure out why as  my urine is now testing clear. In fact I didn't have much pain with the UTI - more frequency and urgency but then at the end of the antibiotic course all the urethral (and sometimes pelvic) pain started.
I got a vaginal yeast infection from all the antibiotics and it's really reocorrent so thought that may be the reason - have applied yeast creams but am now wondering if it is more inside the urethra which is why they don't help much. Otherwise can't work out what is causing it.Doctor's aren't really helping much.

Would be very interested to know if you do make any further progress with getting to the bottom of that.

best wishes, Mere
