Reply with quote | #1 | JO THOMAS WRITES : This site is music to my ears!
My name is Joline, I have been suffering with my bladder from the age of 11, I am now 32. I have suffered the experience of Dr's not knowing what to do with me for years and last year I finally decided to pay for private treatment. Unfortunately this only made my situation worse, I ended up having a biopsy which lead to severe infection and a stint of hospitilisation. I have since found out that I have actually been diagnosed with IC! I finally managed to get my condition under control by changing my eating patterns and religiously drinking fluids. However I am currently battling with another painful stint of IC, which really pulls me down. I have felt so very alone with the illness and as much as my family understand the severity of my condition, it's very difficult to get friends and colleagues to understand, which puts further pressure on me! My Dr has recommended going for Homeopathic treatment so I am going to try that as my next step! If anybody has any recommendations they would be gratefully received. Best Wishes to Everyone Joline __________________ COB Message Board Moderator.

Reply with quote | #2 | Hi Joline,
Welcome to the forums. Glad you found us, your not alone anymore!
Glad you are finding the IC diet helpful.
Have you kept a diary of when you flare, so you can perhaps work out why it happens ?
During flares I find it helpful to alkaline the urine which I do by taking potassium citrate which Iis available from the chemist.
If you would like to find out more about IC and COB group in your area send your name and address to info@cobfoundation.org
best wishes

Hi Joline, I’m so sorry to hear about all your bladder problems but I’m sure that you’ll find lots of advice and support on this website. It really does help to feel that there are other people out there who know what you are going through. I seem to be doing things the other way round from you! I think I’m just about to embark on paying for private treatment, having tried homeopathy for much of this year, with mixed success. I thought you might find it helpful to hear how I’ve got on with it. I suffer from ‘frequency and urgency’ and also have flares (no pain on urination, thank heavens!) The homeopathic remedies seemed to help with the frequency and urgency but, because of my sensitivity, they appeared to provoke flares. The idea is that you start at the lowest possible strength of remedy and then build up – but I was never able to get much off the lowest strength. I’d be fine for several days and then my bladder would flare, for no obvious reason. Apparently this can happen with homeopathy when used for treating a number of different conditions. I know that SueWorld2003 had similar problems, which she was told were due to the very small amount of alcohol used in the remedies. I’m currently trying acupuncture but am having a similar over-reaction to the needles. (The acupuncturist has realised that she needs to use less needles) A lot of people do find it helpful though and I shall persist for a while, as it is early days. The homeopath that I saw (and am still seeing, to help with anxiety brought on by this condition) is also a qualified pharmacist. I find it very helpful that she has a ‘foot in both camps’ so to speak. Interesting that your doctor has recommended trying this – mine (nice as he is) didn’t exactly say “you’re wasting your money” but I’m pretty sure he thought it! If you’ve got any specific questions about the homeopathy or want any other advice about it, do email me and I’ll try to help. Good luck! Sue |

Reply with quote | #4 | Hello Joline, I was diagnosed witth I.C.now almost 2yrs ago.Having tried various treatments to no avail and being under hospital supervision. This week I have completed a 6 wk Accupuncture programme by the hospital anaesthetic consultant which I will receive a "top up" every 2 mts.I take Hypericum 30 three times daily, drink plenty of water with fresh lemon ,follow a dairy free and low acid diet. This I find helps me alot and also works for the Vulvodynia which I also suffer from.I know this may not work for everyone but I do feel you have to try to help yourself as each one is different and the medics do not always have the answer. This site is just marvellous and you are not alone. My best wishes to you. Zena.

Reply with quote | #5 | I have posted this before and have no idea if anyone is interested but EFT is the most helpful thing I have ever found to deal with the anxiety that this type of condition creates. It helped me overcome general anxiety more than a year ago. Then after my antibiotic resistant UT infection and resultant inflammation I was in a really panicky anxious state and unable to sleep and in dispair that I'd be like this for ever - now I'm able to deal with it pretty calmly, sleep well and worry far less...it's been quite a miracle for me and I have also managed to reduce pain with it on occasions - I'm not cured yet but not giving up hope that I will be!!.
best wishes to all... |

If you google EFT you can read all about it and learn enough to practice on yourself free. It stands for Emotional Freedom technique and you tap cetain points on your face neck and torso and say that you accept yourself and it really does work for lots of people in rediucing anxiety and pain Mazzie x __________________ Mazzie

Reply with quote | #9 | Hello - yes what Mazzie said is basically it - it is a technique which seems too simple and good to be true when you read about it but out of all the complementary therapies I've tried it's the one I've got the most benefit from. The main site for it is http://www.emofree.com and there you can download basic manual for free and there are even a couple of case studies about cysitits an vulvodynia and also a good forum. For simple things and once you learn the process it's really easy to self treat - for more complex issues a therapist is recommended which is my next step...should be a relatively short term therapy rather than needing loads of sessions. Often when people try to get better they focus a lot on the physical and don't realize how much impact emotions can also have on our physical well being and EFT works a lot on that level but can also be used on a physical level too. EFT works with me for a lot of things but not everything every time and sometimes it's really fast and other times takes more time so it's worth experimenting with it quite a bit.
All the best...Mere |

Hi,I have had IC for 5yrs and although i get flare ups i dont get much pain any more, only frequency. The best drug to start with is dosulepin 75mg(increas as necessary). It really stops the frequency and initially was designed for nerve pain. The other drug that i take is Tramadol 100mg slow release (again increase as needed). This is a pain killer but seems to stop the frequency too. There is no point trying to live without taking some medication ,as i always say to myself....If i was diabetic,i would have to take insulin!I now am down to a low dose thanks to acupuncture. But you have to make sure that it is chinese acupuncture and that the therapist is registered with the British association of acupuncturists.Hope that helps.Dont suffer. If you need any other info please let me know .lizthomson4@gmail.com |
