Hi Emma,

How are you getting on ? Are you able to get some more sleep now ?

Hope the cysto this week goes well.

You should be able to claim your fares back , make sure you see them in the finance department . If they can help then you should be able to claim back direct from DHSS.

Have you got a number for your local Continence nurse ? They can give you  advice on how to manage daily activities... If you dont have a number let me know and I will locate your nearest one for you.

best wishes

Dawn

Hi emma,

I suffer from ic and have done so for many years. I have been so bad at times that i have been taken to hospital and had to have a catheter in for a few day's and i must say it did help.....it helped me to relax and get some well needed shut eye! I did have some rebound effects after the catheter was removed, however this is totally normal! but can effect us ic folk a little more.

As i live in the highlands and my consultant lives 2 hours away she was not keen to ever have me out with hospital without the proper support!
Ie.....District nurses, g.p, Urology nurse. You are really entitled to have this support!

You are also totally entitled to claim back your travel expensies!!! and you are entitled to hospital transport!! You gp should be able to advise you of all this info...if not the hospital should.

I have not read all your posts so i hope this helps.......having a catheter in during the time of the month is fine. You can still wear a pad and pants etc...even loose jogging bottoms if they give you a long enough peice of tubing, which you can ask for! You can easy take a shower aswell.

Do you know how long you will have one in for? You may get a little bit of urethral burning for this i took plenty of bicarb of soda and i even had some with me in the hospital.

Hope this helps...best of luck and i'm thinking of you.
