Hello everyone!
So during August and the first week of September I was on 4 different antibiotics for a stubborn e coli bladder infection. I went back to my doctor last Monday and she told me my sample was clear, which I felt it was. I still have a slightly inflamed urinary tract but I expect that to ease over time. I've been taking acidophilus since last week to counter act the antibiotics but I think its too late.
I'll try to keep the nexy part as inoffensive as possible!
Since Saturday I've been incredibly itchy and last night when my boyfriend and I attempted to do it for the first time since I got my infection in August it hurt so much! We had plenty lube, I took an anti inflammatory and a d-mannose tablet about an hour before hand etc. but it still was too painful to actually go through with. I presumed it was due to my still sensitive urinary tract but this morningI have a slightly whitish discharge.
I knew these were common thrush symptoms and googled it which confirmed it for me. However, they also suggest if its your first time getting it to see your doctor. I really cannot afford another trip to the doctor. Between all the visits, the antibiotics and herbal remedy's I am stony broke now. (And hopelessy in love with a very expensive winter coat in Zara! )
And I also have to tell my poor boyfriend that I may have given him thrush!
I am so annoyed at this point. I was finally thinking maybe I'm getting over thsi and managing it well and then this comes along! Talk about adding insult to injury! |

Hi Grace, It is horrendous that you should have been put on 4 different antibiotics by the doctor. It is these that have given you thrush and no doubt also caused a lot of trouble for your bladder, urethra etc. Drs just indiscriminately dish out antibiotics - even now - when they know that most of the time any bacteria are resistant nowadays. E coli is notorious for not having an antibitoic that works as most strains are resistant.
You need to go back to the doctor and really speak with them about this whole situation. Candida can colonize the bladder very easily - so many gut flora are knocked out with antibiotics and they know this. You should not have been left in this state of now having to deal with this.
When are doctors going to learn - don't they do their homework. If not they need to be told. Antibiotoics really are very, very dangerous things and 4 different lots in a row will have surely knocked out some very precious good flora for you.
Hope you will be able to get over the thrush. Do a candida diet from now on though to try and help. And really try and get it through to the doctor that antibitoics just give people candida which can go systemic. |

Hi Grace Just to add to Icy reply. You should go back to Doc and explain, as both you and boyfriend need to ensure you are both clear...
After any AB it is helpful to try and replace the GOOD gut flora that will have been destroyed. I personally find increasing my Acidophulus and Pro-biotic along with using Plain Yoghurt around and inside the area a help.
Do let us know how you get on. P.S The coat may have to wait, a little bit longer

I know, I have never before been put on so many antibiotics. I think because I'm allergic to Penicillan I stump doctors as most don't know what lese to prescribe. It also didn't help that I ended up seeing 3 different doctors.
I have been taking acidophilus everyday since last Monday and I'll keep at it for a few weeks. I also am drinking Goldenrod tea, taking d mannose and have cut out sugar, alcohol and caffeine from my diet. All the BC symptoms are gone (thankfully) and I'm really grateful that I know what to take (herbally) now to manage it.
I went to the pharmacy yesterday and got canestan duo and that stuff worked a treat. I feel like a new woman today. I'm going to finish the course of thrush treatment and then go see my doctor to check its fully gone. I also went to the health shop and got the highest level of probiotics they sell. It cost me nearly the same as a doctor's visit, but I feel it will be more beneficial!
I told my boyfriend to go see a doctor just to put my mind at ease, and to start taking loads of probiotics too!
At this stage I really just want to get back to normal. I know the cystitis I had was specifically brought on by sex and as such I am grateful that I can manage it and keep it at bay (hopefully) so once this thrush is gone I should be right as rain.
Thank so much for your replies and advice! |
